How to Give Someone Access to Add a Payment Method to Your Meta Ad Account

To allow someone to add or manage a payment method for your Facebook or Meta ad account, you need to give them the correct permissions inside Meta Business Manager.

The safest approach is to add them as a user instead of sharing your Facebook login.

Recommended Access Level

The person usually needs one of the following permissions:

  • Finance Editor: can add, edit, and manage payment methods
  • Admin access: can manage the ad account, including billing settings

A basic advertiser or campaign manager role is usually not enough to manage payment methods.

How to Grant Access in Meta Business Manager

  1. Go to Meta Business Settings
  2. In the left menu, open Users
  3. Click People
  4. Select the person you want to give access to
  5. Click Assign Assets
  6. Choose Ad Accounts
  7. Select the correct ad account
  8. Enable the needed permissions

For payment method access, choose either:

  • Finance Editor, or
  • Admin access

Finance Permissions Explained

Finance Editor

This role can:

  • Add payment methods
  • Edit billing details
  • Manage invoices and payments

This is usually the best option if the person only needs billing access.

Finance Analyst

This role can only view financial information.

They cannot add or edit payment methods.

Admin Access

Admin access gives the person full control over the ad account, including billing, users, campaigns, and settings.

Only give admin access to someone you fully trust.

If You Are Not Using Business Manager

If the ad account is managed directly through a personal Facebook account:

  1. Go to Ads Manager Settings
  2. Find Ad Account Roles
  3. Add the person
  4. Assign them as an Admin

Only admins can fully manage billing and payment methods.

  3. Add the person
  4. Assign them as an Admin

Only admins can fully manage billing and payment methods.

⚠️ Important Warning About Personal Facebook Accounts

Using a personal Facebook account for business advertising carries additional risk. If your personal account gets restricted or permanently banned, Meta may associate that enforcement with your legal name.

This may make it difficult or impossible to create or manage new ad accounts in the future.

For better protection and account separation, it is strongly recommended to use:

  • Meta Business Manager
  • Separate business assets
  • Proper user permissions
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Avoid sharing Facebook accounts within team members or clients

Common Issue: “You Don’t Have Permission to Add Payment Methods”

This usually means the person does not have the right billing permission.

To fix it, check that they have either:

  • Finance Editor access in Business Manager, or
  • Admin access to the ad account

Security Best Practices

Never share your Facebook password.

Instead:

  • Add each person individually
  • Use the lowest permission level needed
  • Turn on two-factor authentication
  • Remove access when it is no longer needed
